headspace Castle Hill provides mental health support, services and information to young people, aged 12-25, and their families and friends. We can help with mental health, general health, alcohol and other drug services as well as work and study support.

Young people aged 12-25 you do not require a formal referral. Simply phone, email or show up in person or fill in our intake form online to arrange an appointment with one of our staff. 

Bookings are required for appointments after 5pm on weekdays.

headspace Castle Hill is operated by Flourish Australia . All headspace services are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health. Administration of funding is carried out by the headspace centre’s local Primary Health Network, in this case, Western Sydney (Wentwest Ltd).

Services

Services could include: provision of contraception and advice, testing, support, treatment and management of sexually transmissible infections(STI) HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis vaccination for Hepatitis and HPV, pregnancy testing and referral.

Support and assistance finding accommodation or related support services.

Your GP can refer you to see a specialist youth psychiatrist for bulk billed assessment and management advice for mental health issues.

Mental health workers – which may include psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors and other workers – that can help if you're just not feeling yourself.

Sexual health screenings on site or links to local services. 

Workers either on site or linked to the centre who can assist you with work or study opportunities. 

Centres have a range of programs and activities for young people. Just ask your centre what they have on. 

Nutrition screening, dietary assessment and education about food and lifestyle, also support around healthy eating strategies.

Get tips on how to prepare your resume and present for interviews. Find out about local employment opportunities (full time, part-time, or casual).

If you live near our headspace centre in a rural area but cannot travel in to see us, you can see our mental health workers online.

GPs can help with any physical health issues as well as issues related to sexual health, drug or alcohol use, relationship problems or feeling down or upset. Your centre may have a GP on site or links to one locally. 

Workers either on site or linked to the centre who can assist you with any alcohol or other drug concern.

A group of young people who help with events and some decision making at a centre. Ask your centre about getting involved.

In addition to relevant qualifications and experience along with a medicare provider number, we are seeking to find like-minded individuals who are enthusiastic, cooperative team players and positive contributors to the headspace culture. Due to high demand, we are looking for registered psychologists or accredited mental health social workers to join us for an immediate start as independent contractors, running their own client caseload. You let us know your preferred hours and we will work to fill your calendar.

ABOUT THE ROLE

To offer young people and families presenting with a variety of psychological difficulties and disorders high-level clinical services both in-person and via telehealth.

  • Commitment to achieving therapeutic goals using effective evidence-based treatment strategies.
  • Assessment and potential diagnosis using psychometric tools.
  • Participation in clinical decisions about treatment planning, assessment, risk management and working with other services.
  • Client related work – e.g. GP letters/Reports
  • Participate in supervision and peer supervision
  • Work within a team environment, and under broad direction
  • Liaise with external providers as needed e.g. GP, NDIS, Schools

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a Registered Psychologist or Accredited Mental Health Social Worker AND Medicare Provider to deliver assessment and therapeutic intervention to young people and their families.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Registered Psychologist or Clinical Psychologist with AHPRA, or Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with AASW
  • Registered Medicare Provider (see here for eligibility)
  • Two years+ of post-graduate clinical experience with young people or within mental health in diverse settings including (e.g. bio-psychosocial assessments, risk assessments and providing focused psychological intervention).
  • Working with Children's Check and Police Check.

Whilst headspace fully supports early career and provisional psychologists and social workers, on this instance please only apply if you are fully registered or accredited and have a Medicare provider number with direct psychological intervention experience.

ABOUT THE PAY

We are a bulk-billing psychology practice that provides tele-health & onsite services. As a contracted role - we offer a flat rate that is highly competitive, despite being a bulk billing service. Salary range $85,000 to $95,000 p.a (based on meeting position criteria) plus you will enjoy the benefits of:

  • Contracted position (2 years with further availability)
  • Consult with maximum six clients per day
  • Be part of an enthusiastic clinical team, with access to multidisciplinary practitioners (including GP, dietician, psychiatrist)
  • Clinical supervision including daily support and guidance, and weekly peer supervision and clinical support (including clinical manager and team leader). Additional supervision negotiable for clinical registrar programs.

If you are a service provider, health professional, or from a school and wish to refer a young person to headspace Castle Hill, please complete our 'Service Provider Referral Form'.

Prior to completing the form, please ensure that you have obtained the young person's consent and provide as much information as possible so that headspace Castle Hill's Intake Officer can determine the suitability and the most appropriate treatment options for the young person. headspace Castle Hill will contact the young person and inform you thereafter of the outcome of your referral with us.

If you have a booked appointment to come into our centre for an in-person appointment, please fill this 'Health Check' form out prior to your visit to the centre.

Before accessing our centre in-person, all young people and their family and friends must full in the 'Health Check' form.

Please note, if you are feeling unwell, have been in a hotspot area, or have been in contact with someone who has been in a hotspot area, please let us know and reschedule your appointment. You can access the 'NSW Covid Health Advice' 'here'.

When you come in, we will:

  1. Ask you to sign in using the Service NSW QR code available outside our door at our centre
  2. We will do a quick temperature check, if you are 37.5 degrees Celsius or over, we will ask you to reschedule your appointment
  3. We ask that you use the hand sanitiser when you arrive at our centre, and again before you leave
  4. We will also have face masks available if you wish to use one during your appointment, however, this is not mandatory

What is telehealth?

We offer both in-person and telehealth service to young people and their families and friends. 

Telehealth services consist of any health-related communication via telephone and video conferencing platforms and applications.

Alongside in-person appointments, we will continue providing online appointments over phone calls and video calls using Zoom.

Accessing headspace Castle Hill services are free for young people 12-25 years old.

Some of our services do require you to have a medicare card.

Young people 15+ years old can get their own Medicare card by visiting a Medicare office or by calling Medicare on 13 20 11.

We also offer limited sessions outside of Medicare and the Mental Health Care Plan.

Our office is the corner heritage house located at 253 Old Northern Rd, Castle Hill (opposite 7 Eleven).
Our centre is wheelchair accessible via ramp at our main entrance.
The toilet within our centre is gender neutral.

It takes approximately 8 minutes from Castle Hill Metro.
Public parking (4 hour limit) can be found adjacent to McDougall Lane (behind 7 Eleven).

Our centre has a ‘no wrong door policy’ which means no young person is turned away without connection to appropriate internal or external services.

Hi my name is Jennie and I am the Service & Community Development Officer.

I took the scenic route with my studying and career background. Straight out of high school,  I spent the first 6 years working several private corporate sectors in Telecommunications, Government and FMCG industries. I studied Community Services Work and a part degree in Social Work at UNSW.

I am a second generation Vietnamese-Australian and I speak both English and Vietnamese.

headspace very much aligns with my passion in mental health and wellbeing and I am a huge advocate for preventing mental ill health in young people and suicide prevention. 

I’m a dog and cat mum to a 4 year old Pomeranian, Cider, and a 1 year old rescue cat -Pepper. In my spare time and on weekends you can find me reading, doing art, watching movies and dabbling in cat rescue.

I'm Theunis "Tony" Vorster and I am one of the private psychologists at Headspace Parramatta and Castle Hill.

I'm from South Africa and I studied Clinical Psychology there before coming to Australia. My native tongue is Afrikaans and I can speak enough French to order a flat white and cause a misunderstanding about everything else.

What I enjoy most at Headspace is the wide variety of professionals and young people I meet. I am particularly interested in listening to stories, because through stories we organise our thoughts, feelings and experiences. I play piano, like to cook, ride my motorcycle, kayak on the Parramatta river and will watch most movies twice... 20 times if it's a good one.

My name is Sydney Oen and I'm the visiting psychiatrist at headspace Parramatta.

I completed a medical degree before obtaining a specialist qualification in psychiatry.

When I am not working at headspace I work in a public hospital and in private psychiatric practice. Everywhere I go I speak English.


At headspace I am excited when I see a young person taking on their problems with courage, determination, flexibility, and thoughtfulness.

Simple Strategies for Big Feelings

This is a small group that explores strategies for hope manage our big feelings.

When: May-July 2022, Wednesday afternoons between 5-7pm
Where: headspace Castle Hill
What: Informed by DBT, we explore strategies to build out mindfulness and self-awareness, manage our distress, work on regulating our emotions and build better relationships.

Fuse Group

Fused is a 5-week after hours program for young people to experience a unique youth-led environment that encourages them to challenge themselves, connect to others and grow their self-awareness and resilience. Fused is a safe space for young people to push their comfort zones and explore who they are. Fused is open to all young people and young people can attend multiple terms.

Who: 13-17 year olds
When: June-July 2022, Friday nights from 6-8pm
Where: headspace Castle Hill
What: This group is for young people aged 13-17 years old who would like to gain some skills, guidance and information on self-awareness and resilience.

headspace Castle Hill provides free youth mental health services to community and local schools in the local Hills area.

The Service & Community Development Officer is able to provide the following:
- Attend a mental health event and hold an interactive information stall
- Provide educational presentations and workshops on mental health topics, information about our service and referral pathways
- Mental health educational and promotional material, and
- In service tour where you are able to visit our centre, meet our staff and find out more about headspace Castle Hill

The services provided have a mental health promotion and educational focus.
We deliver these services to promote positive mental health and wellbeing (please note that these services do not have a medical or therapeutic focus).

Please note that we require at least 4 weeks notice for requests.
