headspace Katherine is a free and confidential service that can support eligible young people aged 12 to 25 with their mental health and wellbeing. We provide assistance in 4 key areas: Mental Health, Physical & Sexual Health, Alcohol & Other Drugs and Work & Study.

We provide flexible and responsive services to young people at our hub or via our mobile outreach service to surrounding remote Aboriginal communities.

headspace Katherine is an inclusive service which does not discriminate regardless of race, cultural background, religion, sexual orientation, gender, or disability. Our location is also accessible to people living with a disability.

headspace Katherine is operated by Anglicare NT. All headspace services are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health. Administration of funding is carried out by the headspace centre’s local Primary Health Network, in this case, NT PHN .


Mental health workers – which may include psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors and other workers – that can help if you're just not feeling yourself.

Sexual health screenings on site or links to local services. 

Workers either on site or linked to the centre who can assist you with work or study opportunities. 

Centres have a range of programs and activities for young people. Just ask your centre what they have on. 

GPs can help with any physical health issues as well as issues related to sexual health, drug or alcohol use, relationship problems or feeling down or upset. Your centre may have a GP on site or links to one locally. 

Workers either on site or linked to the centre who can assist you with any alcohol or other drug concern.

headspace Katherine is located at the Randazzo Building, across the street from Katherine Woolworths and next to the Katherine Library. The hub is accessible for wheelchairs and people with different needs.

For some of our counselling options, you will need a Medicare card to access sessions under a Mental Health Care Plan. For more information on how to apply for a Medicare card, click here.

If you don't have a Medicare card, please call us to discuss options.

General Practitioner Referral

Referrals should include as much information as possible and be undertaken with the consent of the referred young person. 

GPs should include a mental health care plan for the young person and attach it to the GP referral form. The referral form and mental health care plan can be:

Physical Health Support 

headspace Katherine is able to link young people in with local, youth friendly GP's for general physical check-ups. 

If you require support to access a GP then talk to one of our friendly heasdpace Katherine clinicians.

Sexual Health Support 

headspace Katherine has a free and confidential sexual health drop-in clinic for young people aged 12 to 25 years old, open from 3pm to 6pm every Tuesday. The sexual health clinic offers a range of support such as; sexual health education, advice with healthy relationships and sexuality & gender identity, general professional medical practices of STTs/BBVs testing, treatments and contraception.

Digital Work and Study Service

Digital Work and Study Service aims to ensure young people aged 15 to 25 years old experiencing mental health challenges have the opportunity to actively participate in work and study.

The service assist with everything education and employment related. From finding your first job to deciding what to study, headspace Digital Work and Study Service is here to help. It is a free service and can be tailored to your individual needs.

Strong family and friends support is pivotal to young people’s health and wellbeing. headspace is committed to responding to young people’s needs to be undertaken in the context of significant people in their lives, whether they are family members, carers, partners, or friends. Family and friends are often the first to notice a change in a young person’s emotions or behaviour that may signal the onset of a mental health or substance use problem. They also frequently encourage the young person to seek help or attempt to access help on their behalf. 

headspace Katherine continually look to improve ways by which we engage and include family and friends.

What to be a voice for young people in Katherine?

Our Youth Advisory Group (YAG) advocate for youth mental health, physical health and alcohol and other drug issues within the Katherine region and surrounding communities.


Being apart of the Youth Advisory Group can involve:

  • Leading a project in your local area
  • Research and evaluation of headspace Darwin services
  • Consultation around resource development such as fact sheets, brochures etc.
  • Peer support and mentoring
  • Mental health training
  • Attending local community events as a representative


Being a YAG member provides you with:

  • The opportunity to have your say and direct youth mental health services
  • Develop new skills
  • Meet and work with other likeminded young people who are passionate about youth mental health
  • Make a difference to youth mental health in our local community
  • Have opportunities to advocate for improved youth related services in the Katherine region


How do I get involved?:

If you're aged between 15 and 25 years old, have an interest in mental health and is willing to attend meetings once fortnightly, then the YAG is for you. 

We are currently taking expression of interest for our 2022 Youth Advisory Group.

The headspace Katherine Community Engagement team can be booked to attend local events and deliver mental health education and awareness training and workshops to young people, their communities, schools or organisations.

Some of the topics we can cover include:

These groups are targeted to young people aged 12 to 25 years to address a range of therapeutic needs. Groups will run based on demand and can be run at headspace Katherine or your desired location.

What is Community Outreach? 

The mobile clinic aims to meet the mental health needs of Aboriginal young people aged 12 to 25 years living in remote communities.

headspace Katherine works alongside Elders, community members, young people and their families in remote Aboriginal communities to provide culturally safe and inclusive mental health services that meet the social and emotional wellbeing needs of Aboriginal young people.

The communities we visit are: 

  • Binjari
  • Wugularr
  • Jilkminggan
  • Pine Creek and Kybrook Farm

Keep an eye out for the headspace Katherine van and the team who will visit your community each fortnight!

Young people can chat with our team of mental health clinicians and our Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Worker who can help to work out how best we can support.


Young people and family members can also talk to the health workers at their local clinics or teachers at their local schools who are able to assist with referrals to our services. 

For other young people that live in other surrounding communities within the Big Rivers Region. headspace Katherine can provide additional support to young people through our telehealth (phone and online) service by linking in with your local health clinic or calling the team on 89124000 to find out more.

What is the headspace Katherine PRISM Group?

PRISM is a safe space for members of the LGBTQIA+ community aged 12 to 25.

What is eheadspace?

eheadspace is a free and safe place that provides web chat or telephone support for young people 12 to 25 years old who might be too far from a center, might not feel comfortable face-to-face support - or just prefer this way of chatting. 

Who is eheadspace?

At eheadspace, we are experienced youth mental health professionals - psychologists, social workers. mental health nurses and occupational therapists. They help by listening, talking things through, giving you information and offering other support option to help you.

When is eheadspace support available?

eheadpsace web chat and telephone support is available 7 days a week, 9am to 1am Australian Eastern Standand Time (AEST), but you can email anytime.
